How to Create Interior Construction Details That Work
Speaker: David Ballast, AIA, CSI, NCARB
Many times interior design details may look good but fail to function properly. This presentation provides a rational way to use graphic problem solving to develop construction details that meet the designer's aesthetic and functional intent while meeting practical constraints and the client's budget and time requirements. A process for incorporating the many aspects of detailing is presented along with tips and techniques for streamlining the development of details. After a presentation of the main elements of and procedure for interior detailing, attendees apply the knowledge and their own skills to several small vignette problems given by the instructor, developing and drawing details to satisfy the problem statement of each. Solution approaches are critiqued by the instructor as well as by other attendees.
Learning objectives:
· Identify the many parameters that influence the successful development of an interior design detail.
· Apply program requirements to developing and sketching a detail that meets aesthetic, functional, and constructability needs.
